I had an esophagectomy two years ago following chemotherapy and radiation treatments. I would be happy to share any information about my expierience. The cancer has shown up in my lungs (small tumor). I had radiation (SBRT) last summer and have CTs every three months to check progress. We’re keeping a close eye on it.
I feel great.
It was tough, but I survived.
Highly recommend Virginia Mason Hospital
Two and a half years ago I had a tumor that was 4cm at the junction of my stomach and esophagus. It had not spread which with it being that big was hard for the Doctor to believe. I was given the name of a surgeon at Emory and I called him . He called me back . I made an appointment and went to see him . He told me if he didn’t do another surgery until he did me I would be #731 ! The surgery I had is called an Ivor Lewis procedure . Dr Staley and Dr Felix Fernandez performed an eleven and a half hour surgery on me . The chemo and radiation reduced the tumor to .8cm ! I went home in eleven days ! I was more weak from the chemo and radiation than from the surgery . After I had finished the chemo and radiation the doctors gave me one month to get as much of my strength back that was possible . I can’t say how good my doctors were and still are . Dr Nick is wonderful and Emory with Dr. Fernandez and Dr. Staley were wonderful . Just get prepared to be extremely tired . The worst part was pre surgery. But you can do this . Just a note , please get the best doctors you can . Staley was recommended to me by my oncologist. Good luck ! You can do this !
